The diverse musical styles of Italian and German Baroque choral music and the relationship between them will be explored by the Ashton Singers, from the avant garde harmonies of Carlo Gesualdo, the Deutsches Magnificat by Heinrich Schütz, Giacomo Carissimi’s oratorio Jepthe with its heart-rending final chorus, to J.S. Bach’s majestic double choir motet Singet dem Herrn for double choir. Music by J.M. Bach, Schein and Monteverdi, sacred and secular, will provide further variety. To enhance the evening’s entertainment in the beautiful setting of St Cross, the Master’s Garden will be open to the audience before the concert and in the interval, when drinks will be served.
Tickets: £15 .
