Ashton Singers Fiftieth Anniversary Concert
Winchester based chamber choir Ashton Singers, founder and conductor Julian Macey, celebrate their 50th anniversary in the final concert of the Winchester Festival with a baroque extravaganza, joined by CANZONA – one of England’s leading period instrumental ensembles (directed by Theresa Caudle). This will be a rare opportunity to hear cornetts, sackbuts, violins, chitarrone and chamber organ with voices resonating in the wonderful setting and acoustic of St. Cross Church. The varied programme will range from small ensemble pieces to Venetian polychoral works for up to sixteen parts, including works by Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Schütz, Buxtehude and others.
There will be a wine and juice bar in the Hundred Men’s Hall during the interval, when the Master’s Garden will be open to the audience, weather permitting.
