French and German Baroque music for Advent and Christmas

In the beautiful setting of St Cross Church the Ashton Singers, with period instruments, present a programme of Baroque music for Advent and the Christmas period, including Charpentier’s oratorio In nativitatem Domini canticum H.416. The text presents the Christmas story in three sections: the chorus of the faithful, the story of the birth of Jesus and the adoration of the shepherds. The music is a mixture of French and Italian styles with dramatic elements. Also in the programme:Das neugebor’ne Kindelein by Buxtehude; motets by J.M.Bach, Praetorius, Scheidt, Schein; Sonate a Huit, H.548 by Charpentier.
A wine and juice bar will be available during the interval.
